Truck driving has to be the one industry with a higher turnover rate than NASCAR wrenching. I know of one towing operator who set aside 2 weeks a year to move tool boxes from one NASCAR shop to another.
Heartland Express out of Iowa City is big on providing tractors that will support all the creature comforts like hot plate, micro wave, internet etc. they are working with Navistar to incorporate power inverters and increased battery capacity etc for power when idle time.

From 98-05 I sold doc management software, and trucking companies used it to track all their paperwork. First time I demoed a trucking company, I was surprised to learn about the high turnover. A driver would get ticked off about a load, get mad at dispatch, have a bad argument with the wife, etc., and just pull over and leave the load at a truck stop, and quit. No two weeks notice.
Would make it a bit harder to find another job. Truckers have much more power than most of them realize. I'm just starting to realize it myself.
That's what I figured. Evidently, it was so easy to get a job, with experience, quitting like that wasn't an issue. I can't remember now how often it was, but as I recall it was multiple times per month.

He had taken a load there from NC, but found that he didn't have enough money to get home. SO WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME?!!
Buddy of mine was a firefighter here in Baltimore for years, then moved to Alaska and was a firefighter for years. Moved back here 5 years ago, but decided to try something new, so he went to driving school and got his CDL for the big rigs. He went through 2 or 3 jobs the first year, then another 2 or 3 the next year, then 2 or 3 the next! Apparently there is a ton of shady trucking company owners out there, and have no problem fucking over their drivers. My buddy is a no BS kinda guy that shows up ready to work, no drugs, perfect driving record, and takes his job seriously. He refuses to accept any shenanigans from his employers, so if they start playing fuck fuck games, he's outta there. Finally last year, he hooked up with a small company that runs seafood/freash fish up and down the East Coast. The owner is a good dude that treats his guys very well. The trucks are nice, he pays them a shit ton of money, and the checks always cash. Tony loves working for them. Good on you Darren for refusing to settle!
I had a girlfriend in high school who's dad had worked for a company like that. It was apparently too good to be true. Turned out that the trailers had false walls in the front - her dad did several years in federal prison when he police found several hundred pounds of weed in his load!
