Honestly, I don't really care what Jefferson said or wrote. Mixing church and state has never been a good thing, historically, presently or in the future (I pray g... er, I hope not!)
Nope it's totally obvious to us. Obvious like planes being flown into the WTC's. Obviously like a fart in a concert hall. Fuck.
Better yet, a loud juicy fart in church...during the sermon or a prayer! (Profanity omitted for the sake of the pure of mind)
Considering that religion is political, yes. Other than that, what a group interprets as the 'will of god' has no business in the governing of the state. Religion can lead to irrational stuff and it may be as quaint as putting the ten commandments at the door steps of a court.
Ain't it the truth? Does anyone remember the Blue Laws in Texas? It was an attempt (by the Christians) to "encourage" people to go to church on Sundays. for example, on Sundays you could buy nails but not a hammer. You still can't buy liquor on Sunday until after 12:00 noon. According to some beliefs one is not suppose to work on Sundays. I've been tired of their interference in my life for many decades.
You stupid? You think there were no rules or laws before the bible came along? Oh. Right. The earth is 6000 YO...
