Close ratio gears Buff Dont know if you are aware of Ellis Moore? http://www.mpe07.co.uk/ He made & supplied my close ration 1st & 5th gears for a very good price. Hope this is helpful all the best Chris
How about typical CB350-V1 gearing selection for MA/NE tracks? I have 17/37 right now, I'm guessing it's somewhere in the 17/33, 34, 35 range? It has the stock fifth gear, not the close ratio, and I'm a flyweight, about 155 lbs with gear...
Chummy.....I dont know the tracks, but a 16,17,33,34 will be a real good start......I dont know if you will ever use that 37 ....maybe on some type of go-kart trak or something real short....flattrack maybe.
Yeah, I figured that 37 was for hill climbing or something...Time to get Sprocket Specialists on the horn me thinks... Oh, and can somebody explain the mystery of the yellow number plates to me? I see yellow plates on expert bikes. I see white plates on expert bikes. But there is no distinction between expert and novice in Vintage ranks, does it matter?
naaa...it really dont matter. I changed to white / exp cuz the rules said to if you win a region or something....its in there somewhere. I'm going back to yellow with black cuz thats what sportsman runs, and I wouldnt have to swap around.
Well, I picked up a V-1 bike this past weekend along with a pretty complete parts bike and some additional pieces/parts...The really cool thing is I have a buddy (Mike/Bus) who is interested in going to riders school and we're going to try to get that parts bike together for next season for the GP350 class. Hell, we'll just have fun tearing the bad boy down and trying to do it on the cheap, he just wants to get out on the track and have some fun, no delusions of factory contracts and whatnot...Good mindset for the class. He's a big dude, like 260 lbs. big, big in like, "Ramp, he don't need no stinking ramp." I'm gonna have to find a place to hide the nitrous bottle... I've just got a little tinkering to do on the V1 bike, get some sprockets and swap out the front end springs, the bike is sprung for a 220 pound guy...It has Traxxion springs in it up front. I suppose I could start by cutting down the spacers and see what I get for sag and try to do it on the cheap, but I don't want to half step on the set up of the V1 bike. It's too nice to go halfway on... For the GP 350 bike, what are the good guy front brake setups? I've seen the Water Buff solution but I know those things are pricey and hard to find...What's the reasonable, cost effective way to go for a first season novice bike, drum brake wise, just starting out?
bravo sir....bravo!....see you on the grid  On the GP bike, you could run the stock brake, I did, and several others still do....actually the WERA V1 Natl champ this year runs a stock CB350 drum (with some work ). Upgrades would be a CB450 or a T500....or XS650. Good luck man....holler if you need to.
Ahhhhhhh...Well OK then...Simple is good, we'll go stock and pop some good shoes in the bad boy...And Charley, thanks for the help, partner, we're going to have some fun next year, get those grids full and give Mongo a reason to include us in Cycle Jam...
I dunno man, with a stock 5th I ran 17:36 at Barber and could have used the 37t. And Loudon's a lot shorter than Barber...but maybe that extra 20HP makes a difference.
Hmmmmmm....Well? I'll bring it, I usually haul everything anyway, it's like watching Bedouins break camp when we load everything around here, chickens and goats on the roof, and off we go... First race around these parts is VIR though usually, and then Summit, and with my bird ass in the seat I suspect a 37 would have the little devil screaming by pit-out...
No problem in WERA Vintage, but AHRMA has different ideas about this. I was protested for running my white plates in Sportsman at VIR, but fortunately had cleared it ahead of time. They have different color schemes for different classes..a holdover from pre-transponder days I guess. http://www.ahrma.org/Z-2009/ahrma_2009_handbook.pdf and the USCRA RB specifies different color plates/numbers for FIM events but don't know if that applies to all their races: http://www.race-uscra.com/forms/USCRA_2009_Rulebook_FINAL.pdf check w/them
Wow, protested for number plate color...I dunno, that doesn't seem very "Sportsman" like now does it...I think I'll leave the yellows on if I ever run an AHRMA deal, I do really like Mid-Ohio and they do seem to have a lock on that place...They sound like the old CCS with protests over number plates though...Screw that noise...
Hey, results are hard to argue with there Eric.....you must be winding that puppy up.....I ran 16/33 at barber, which would put me at 2.06 and you at 2.11...close, with different approach's. Bedouins....ha, thats funny....and now that you mention it, thats exactly what I feel like loading all my stuff in my S-10 with no trailer.....especially if I'm camping......I forego the goatmilk for 1 day. Besides, last time I took my goat billy.....Walker and Bowie got ahold of him and it was Baaaaaaaad......yuk yuk.
Oh yeah, I would think a built motor at Summit even w/stock 5th would need at least 17:35. @ 10,500rpm and stock 5th that would give you about 113mph...do they go that fast?
Beats me, I'm a V1 neophyte, I just want to get in the ballpark gearing-wise. The bike is pretty much going to live at Nelson, Summit, Beaver and VIR, maybe Atlanta if I can get out of my own way...The motor is built, if it helps it's Rich Andrews old CB, and I don't weigh squat...
Mine shaft? So am I reading this right? A built CB350 will not pull 17:35? That's Bonneville gearing?
I've had no problems pulling 17/33 at road Atl, daytona, and Roebling if I recall. There was also a VERY fast 350 pulling 17/32 at road atl.
