And why the fuck didn’t anyone tell me?

It was served too cold, but tasted like a genuine boozy Guinness. Would drink again.

I have vague memories of drinking that in 1991.

    And I do mean vague.

From last weekend's Cal Craft Brewers Cup -- BOS panel. 81 beers to slog through.

I actually judged the NA beer flight and there were only 4 entries, but 3 of them were quite good (but easily sensed as lacking ethanol). Most of the new craft beers process of alcohol removal involves enzymes, compared to vacuum pressure removal in the old days of Amstel and Clausthaller, but both techniques have improved markedly in the last 2-3 years. They have good beer character, and much better malt-hop integration, but still lack the seamless synthesis provided by alcohol. B68D299D-4873-4C47-907F-4C05FCCBD70B.jpeg

Subscribed. I had some stem cell injections in my back a little over a month ago. I stopped drinking a month prior and won't for six months after because it's evidently poison for the cells.

I tried some NA beers last week from athletic brewing company that weren't bad. I don't miss alcohol but it was still nice to sit and drink a beer with friends.

In general, there are getting to be some good NA beers out there.
Some of the mass market NA beers from the USA still suck, but frequently so does their normal beer, so no surprise there.

The NA flight was on Saturday, and only four beers. The panel did a full eval of those just like we normally do when doing beer judging by flight. The Best of Show is a totally different deal. I only nosed about half the beers. 81 is simply too many to actually taste and the entire operation it is best viewed as picking the prettiest cloud out of a sky full of amazing clouds. The others I tasted very small samples, but it's not a rigorous process. That said, the smoked Helles stood out and won BOS.

I didn't know Guinness made an NA version. I will try it out as I love Guinness.

As a derelict teenager used to chug half a bottle of Boone's Farm and refill with with Everclear or Gem Clear.
Take it to parties and watch the fun ensue.
Also to spike various 5 gallon jug based party drinks and mushroom tea.
There is a reason I got sober young. I am not good at moderation.
