I got a chance to pick up this old 2-smoke Zook for cheep, cheep. Is the LeMans version worth more than the DT version? Looks like a good overall bike and it does "run". I'm thinking of doing a cafe bike with it and it looks prolly an ok bike. Any issues to look at ?
that front drum, with the lever and perch, is worth about 5 hundy. 4ls is the hot vintage front brake. if its got the little covers on the vents, you can take those off and there are some bitchen little screens under them.
Not sure how you'd cafe out a water buffalo. Thing has a big ole radiator randomly plastered on the front. -jim
Common to all old two strokes that sit, but early run 72 GT750's were chronic primary seal blowers. If it smokes a lot more out of the rh pipe, primary seal is gone. Pipes have crossover, so it can be hard to tell which cyl is smoking tho'. Large number of 72's that stayed on the road had the warranty crank installed, which was better. May have punch marks by engine number if it was done, and later 72's should have had the newer crank from factory. (Suzuki dealer might be able to tell when that started based on engine #.) Only other way to tell is lifting top end: new crank used shim washers on small end. This is an old water cooled motor, too. Corrosion in cooling system could be a problem, especially if someone started topping it off with tap water. Oh, and they're wobblers. You can make one look like a cafe racer, but...
I have 4-5 photos of the buffalo. Will post soon. It has an original Vetter Windjammer on it. Old iron...running iron.
