I raced all season with no 2nd gear. Have been running -1 + 6 gearing to try to make 3rd gear work exitting hairpins at 4000 rpms,LOL Anyone have a YZF 600 motor (any yr) that runs good with no issues, and shifts good with no 2nd gear issues (or any other trans problems for that matter). I don't need the carbs.
get a hold of quentin mize. he's the b-stone guy in the NE and NC. he built a '95 YZF600 for a kid he was helping in '07 that had about 115 hp. i think the motor was only used for a few rounds. he was making noise about putting it in his FZR400 frame, but hasn't. seriously stout motor. tell him kmc sent you.
No second gear was a common problem. The shift dogs would round off and it would pop out under load. Yamaha updated some parts and fixed it. My 95 was like that. I let them do it under warranty, and didn't have a problem after that.
