El Dorado 15 or Zacapa 23. There's tons of good aged rums out there but you can't go wrong with those two for under $50.

Depends on who you are giving to. If it's just your average drinker who is going to mix it with Coke, just go Capitain Morgan Extra Spicy to make some killer Rum & Cokes. If he's a afficionado, but you want to stay at a reasonable price, you can't go wrong with Barbancourt.

Some rums have real history and some don't, never tried it so can't knock them, and if anybody on here mentions Captain Morgan I'm going to lose my shit

 

I have an old buddy who lives on clear Bacardi, tells me my rum tastes like whiskey. Poor old man has no taste and I tell him as such.
