What bike and rideris this?

Does anyone recognize this motorcycle and or rider? It was taken at the Memphis AMA round in 1987. Must have been practice since there's no number on the bike. On first glance it looks like a Ducati, but the engine does not.

Looks to be Jimmy Adamo on what might be a Ducati 750ss.

 

Nope, water cooled.

It's a waaaaay custom Vision based, home made frame racer.

 

Not a Duc…check the heads.

 

Yeap, jugs and cases look wrong to be a ducati but the trellis frame, tank and fiaring said "ducati" to me. The helmet and leathers said Adamo.

I could be way, way off.

 

That's what I was thinking Repo. Cool, didn't know I had a good shot of that bike and now I discover that I do. I wonder if that's Cooper riding the Vision?

 

Did Arai make Adamo replicas back in 1987? I'm trying to remember when those first appeared.

 

Good question. That does seem early for that helmet doesn't it.

 

It's Jimmy Adamo on the Yamaha Vision. No idea what that was about. Maybe Wilbanks asked Jimmy to give the bike a shake-down run.

 

Would have guaranteed that if the eyeglasses were visible. Glad you sorted it.

 

Bimota? Before my time but it sure does look cool.

 

The helmet was very likely a real "Adamo" helmet in the he used to do them himself in his shed before Arai actually started making them based off of Jims design. That could me one he did himself.
