My good friend Dana Wilson says to me "Hey buddy anytime you want to stick your son on my R6 just let me know." Kids been on my ass for 2 months about it. He's still only 12 years old and I have been very conservative with putting him on big bikes. Saturday evening I was teaching the advance rider class at Miller and turn around to find my wife pushing Dana's R6 on to the pit. WTF? Shes telling me she thought I said it was OK. The kid rolls in on his 250 and gets big eyes. Well.... ok then here we go. He cant hold the bike up by himself, its too tall. He's shaking like a leaf in front of 30 students and 8 instructors who have completely stopped whatever they were doing to watch this go down. Out he goes. I flipped the map to a rain map and bumped up the TC a little for a cushion. 5 laps pretty chill then he started getting on it pretty good. Came in and was the most excited I've seen him. I flipped it to a normal map and turned the TC back a little and he went back out and ran 35 minutes straight. I went out and chased him (on my wifes street bike) and was having a tough time getting a pass on him. Lap times would have put him about 7th or 8th on our novice grid. Now I gotta buy an R6.... fuck. I'll get some pics. This is all I have so far.
When I read the first line about Dana's bike I was thinking you were fucked because you had to buy him an R6
I feel so emasculated right now! I would bet your 12 year old is faster on that r6 than i am on mine! Good job! Imagine how fast he will be when the susp is set up for his weight!
Badass, i need to get out there now that I've got the s1000rr derestricted... Anything NOT on weekends?
I say win/lose. Had your kid tossed the bike you would be buying an R6 and paying medical......Could have been worse.
The deal I made with my daughter is you cannot ride a bike that you can't hold up on your own. Oh and if she ever beats me in a race she loses her ride. Haha? Good on you with your boy. He has a bright future.
