First time I remember hearing this was Anna Farris in "House Bunny", not by the term, but the low register voice.

 

I think its to make them look like one of those stadium trucks that jump shit going off ramps and what not? I could be wrong just a guess. I'm seeing more of them down this way to. It looks weird...
