Peeps, I have a friend who lost her husband and is looking for someone to possibly work on, or sell, a 1980 Vespa. No idea how desirable these are, or aren't, but it looks pretty good from the photos.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks! 60741.jpeg 60742.jpeg 60747.jpeg

Off the top of my head, I'd say there will be a strong market for it.

I'd suggest listing it on eBay as is. Just make sure she has guidance on how to weed out the fake bids and crooks.

Don't even clean it; just take tons of pics from every angle.

I was gonna include that in my OP, but I didn't want to deprive some sad, non self respecting individual the opportunity to embarrass themselves with such low hanging fruit. :D

they can be hot rodded to ~34hp at the tire... Id throw it up for sale on Modern Vespa just to taunt the demographic over there.
Not sure on the pricing but $3500ish sounds like a good starting point.

I have a 1979 vespa P200E and based on the photos you've shown that's a very very nice one and has some extras.

    Assuming it's a P200E:

The crash bars on the front fender are expensive and getting rare, especially if OEM.
The rear crashbars and the front windshield look OEM too.
That seat was not the typical stock seat. It's aftermarket. Nice one too.
The front right turn signal should be easy to source a new lens.

If it runs, it's probably worth ~$3K to $5K depending on miles.
If it doesn't run, probably still worth $2k.
If not, it's probably $400 to get the carbs redone. Honestly, any place that does 2-stroke motors would be able to clean it.
    Sourcing gaskets may be difficult.

Nice bike, wish it were closer, as it'd be a good match to mine.

Can you take a photo of the left rear cowling? Should have a P200E or P125X in silver along the running line.

    Hello, Vespa dude here.

the good side is that it’s all there. Prob about $500 to get it in good running g shape clean carb, tires, fuel lines, etc.

cleaned up $3500-$5000 depending on buyer ajd location for market.

the downside is that it’s a manual and kick start which eliminates a lot of people. Hipsters want the cool look but not the work (shifting and kick starting)

The kick start (or bump start if you're on a hill) is the best part.
Shift to second, turn it on and then . . . :)

I really appreciate that…I was that guy. I had some other uninformed comments that I will now keep to myself as well.
