Looking to dump my '11 Giant Anthem X1. Looked at Craigslist but its just a bunch of Mongooses and old ass Gary Fisher's. Any good sources to find a value or actually sell an older, higher end bike like this?

    Thanks

Bicyclebluebook.com is a start. It is not gospel, but at least an idea and what people looking to buy are probably going to try and use.

You can look around Pinkbike or ebay for a similar bike for sale. MTBR classifieds is less active, but may have something comparable in there. That's about all you got. Be prepared to get serious low balls and let go of it cheap if you really want to move it. Bicycles do not hold value at all. Buddy of mine bought a 2016 Trek Fuel EX9 new ($4k). Rode it for only a year. Sold it for $2100 and that took a couple months to get that.

Singletracks.com did a short article on depreciation of mountain bikes... 48% in the first year. Yikes. Glad i'm not a weight weenie and don't feel the need to rush to 1x12 setup just because that's the hot new ticket.

check individual companies' websites towards November... lots of them clear out previous year models for discount. i got both my Commencal frames for like 60% off brand new from Commencal France (different than Canada or US website) that were 2 year old models when basically the only thing that changed was color schemes, for example.

check all the big players... chain reaction, jenson USA, bike24.com, steep & cheap.com, nashbar, competitive cyclist, backcountry, modernbike, REI... just look for clearance sales or black friday sales... awesome deals sometimes. might still be a bit too early yet.

Check local Facebook bike groups. That's where I just sold mine. Spent a month or so on Craigslist, MTBR and a couple other forums, without anything. Local FB group, had a few offers right away.

I do a lot of buying/selling on Facebook groups. Northeast bike classifieds is pretty hot for MTB.

People here seem to think their bikes are worth double what that bike bluebook site shows.
They will list 5 year old 3K bikes for 2K, and get offended when you offer the 800 the bike is worth.
No point in looking at a good chunk of the used market locally.

I am desperate for a quality downhill bike but new is WAY too expensive and every guy with a used one thinks its his lover or something.

DH bikes are usually easier to find cheap, enduro bikes are much more expensive. I'm a big fan of YT DH bikes, they sell direct. I think you can get a new one for 2k. PNW classifieds has downhill bikes for ~800 for a used 26".

yea dude you can get DH bikes on a steal a lot of times. the used market for them is the worst of all mtb types. pinkbike all day... dudes selling bikes they used like 4 times for half price.

also it will be your lover haha...

even tho my 29er is my go-to work horse... my DH bike puts the biggest smile on my face every time i ride it. the tires, the travel, the brakes... they're the most fun bikes to ride ever IMO, and people always rag on them that i know who ride enduro bikes as being unnecessary. yes, they might be overall, and hike-a-bike sucks if you just wanna be out there riding and don't live near a bike park... but godamn man... its the best thing ever, don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. i've been trying to talk my homie in Laguna into one for 5 years and he STILL won't just jump in the pool. always buys 160-180mm travel single crowns, i have no idea why...

DH bikes are cheaper atm 2nd hand, not sure if it's just supply and demand or everyone is endurobro. Tempting to pick up an older classic DH bike for fun as they can be had cheap if you can handle the classic geo.

Thanks guys. I live about a mile from a kickass park and a DH bikes seems to be the hot ticket. I own an cyclocross bike that I used on their flat trails but those sweet jumps are calling my name.
