What is the difference between an "old" style and "new" style transponder? I would think that any AMB TranX 260 would work. Or is there internal differences? Thanks!

No difference. The old ones are more square looking. The also give you a better torque curve and produce 1 more hp. Other than that as long as it has as many green blinks as a new one then no need to worry.

Well, since I ride a first gen SV that extra horse could make all the difference. I should look for an old one then.

The new models charge in less than one day and last at least four days. Mine doesn't go red until after day four.
