My childhood best friend's band Stoney and the House Rockers, I had a lot of great times hanging out and listening to them practice and going out to clubs to see them play. Those were great times.
I am seeing a lot of individual artists in these lists. While some of them are very talented musicians, they are not bands.
Have to disagree. David Bowie may have been a person but he was also a band. Mick Ronson and SRV would agree with me.
Not in any order Dead Kennedys Black Flag before Rollins ruint it TSOL The Dickies Sex Pistols Operation Ivy Nitzer Ebb Butthole Surfers The Dicks The Wurst Enemy of Science
I will agree that there can be exceptions, but many of the individual artists listed in here are just singers, not bands. Sting and Paul Simon would be two other exceptions and there are likely many more. See above. A singer is not a band, at least by my definition.
In no order and as of right now: Ramones Husker Du Tom Petty (all of it) Jawbreaker U2 * Boston Replacements Bad Religion Hum The Nils missed by this much (or I did my list tomorrow might be in there): Motörhead, Fugazi, Bruce Springsteen (kicked out of the top 10 because of the Born stuff and MTV), Pulley (kicked out the points by U2), Black Flag (kicked out by Family Man and Ginn), Fishbone, NOFX (I don’t like Fat Mike), Pennywise, Bouncing Souls, Millencolin, Naked Raygun/ Pegboy. . . I know I’m cheating but I’m stressing. How did U2 beat Motörhead? Why no Slayer? What about Prince? Ugh! * have to include them because they wrote some of the greatest songs ever but, gawd, I hate them as a whole. Edit: forgot Cheap Trick (easily #11 on my list). F@ck!!!!
Which ones? I thought I read through most and don't see any individuals. Many bands are known, and named for their front person. From Prince to Dolly Parton and on and on.
I purposely cheated by listing Tom Petty but only to include the traveling wilburys and him and the heartbreakers as Johnny cash’s backing band on one album and only he and one other on the next few albums.
I often think of how different the world would be without the Beatles. Mostly there would be no Beatles albums.
I forgot the Descendents/ ALL, 7seconds (who would have been in my top 10), circle jerks, Journey and a bunch of others even with my cheating at the bottom of my list. I was even thinking of Zeppelin but as a band I hated but only because they were ruined by over playing and not being able to escape them while growing up.

God damn it! If I see one more mention of Supertramp in anything but a totally derogatory context, I'm calling in an airstrike! Don't try me! I'll exterminate you all!
