Thinking about getting a Boxster... any input?

On which year to get? What to avoid?

 

Spyder, Spyder RS or turn in your probationary Man Card.

Well for me they are a little too chick car ish? A Cayman is cool. I would rather drive a Miata, or Mini Cooper S, versus a Boxster, unless it is the Spyder or Spyder RS.

 

Funny this comes up.....I was recently looking to possibly pick up a used Macan. I kind of like the looks of some of them.

 

The earlier years had a camshaft bearing that could be starved of oil. Was recalled eventually. They used a sealed bearing instead of an open bearing. Not usually an issue if the owner gave it the beans and didn't just putter to coffee shops.
You want the rear glass, not plastic. Otherwise, whatever year you like. First years are a sweet bargain, but maybe the 07-12 is the better buy.

Blah blah its a chick's car. Who cares. They can be had stupid cheap and drive like a Porsche. Get the S version if you can. Not super fast either way, but a ton of fun on the right roads.

A great underrated deal is a 2005 911 with the IMS bearing replaced.
I would rather have a 911 than a boxter . If you drive one you will see. You can find a great deal maybe a turbo.

Just get the one that matches your knee-highs and skirt.

 

Avoid any of them that are made in Germany.

 

There was a good segment on Two and a Half Men about the Boxster.

 

Make sure it has the OEM backup alarm so you don't end up on the wrong Wang.

 

I have a friend who has owned at least one, and knows all of them well. He spent tons of money fixing factory flaws, and made money after doing so, including shipping it 3 times.

 

This. Co-worker bought one from the hq in Atlanta. I like it. Decently sporty but not something to worry about in a parking lot. Imo.

 

Just don't get a silver one. They all seem to be silver.
