I am surprised this hasn't made it in the dungeon yet, but maybe it's on of the 8 gajillion pages on gun control.

This paper decides to publish a map showing the location of people with pistol permits.

    http://www.lohud.com/interactive/article/20121223/NEWS01/121221011/Map-Where-gun-permits-your-neighborhood-?nclick_check=1

So, in turn, the Gun Owners on Facebook post the names, address and phone numbers of the journalist, editor and president of the news paper.

    https://www.facebook.com/gunowners4liberty?ref=stream

Any guesses that those who published the gun owners addresses either are or soon will be protected by guns?

The information is out there for anyone willing to look, so honestly it's not big deal for the gun owners. I'd be more worried if I WASN'T on the list because then a criminal knows I don't have a gun :D

I don't get why the maps qualify as "news". Seems like a lot of wasted effort for no real return.

I don't see a problem. However, screw New York for requiring citizens to have a permit.

It's not "news", it's hype. Guns are HAWT and this is a story about all the dangerous guns floating around the neighborhoods (in the hands of responsible, law-abiding people who applied for permits, passed background checks, and acquired them legally no less). :wow:

So basically, they're telling the burglars which houses aren't safe to break into? Nice!!!

I've been under the impression that it's illegal to release that information in most states. Am I wrong? I know that that information in Texas is not publicly available.

Or more likely, they're telling burglars where a gun can be stolen. :)

Another fine example of 'journalism' adding to my contempt for the media.

These folks did nothing to have that kind of attention drawn to them.

    Outstanding.

And that's just the surface of the idiocy unleashed by this article.

I guess you get to decide...if you're a burglar. Do I want to steal a gun and maybe get shot for my trouble...or just steal some jewels, TV's and other sh*t. Who knows how these creeps think.

What I KNOW is, at least where I live, if you get caught breaking into a home when the owner is there you've got a 90% chance of leaving with a hole in you.

for the people who dont think this is a big deal, what if they published a list of who worshiped whatever YOUR religous beliefs were? or they published a list of those on a subscription to miget bikers, wearing leather sundresses? or YOUR favorite fetish????

WE LEFT ENGLAND TO AVOID THIS PERSECUTION. THERE WAS NO NEED TO PUBLISH THIS LIST. if you are not a felon YOU CAN OWN A GUN IN THE USA. IT IS LEGAL, STOP THE BS NOW!!!!

we are really going down the wrong road in this country. get your tin foil, this could be another civil war. Ski

Actually it is a wonderful demonstration of why gun registration is wrong. It just creates a list for dictators to collect weapons.

Can we get a map of welfare recipients as well? Or does that step over their rights to privacy?

I wonder how the public would react if they published a list of all homes with satellite subscriptions to porn channels.

pfft. Until the 1970's, papers all over the country published the names, ages, and places of work of anyone arrested for BEING in a bar that catered to gays. The big city papers gave up the practice in the mid '70's for the most part, smaller places it continued until laws making it possible for it to be a crime to just be in a gay bar were thrown out by activist judges.

Such publication usually meant loss of job, BTW.

Not saying that the paper's action is defensible, but there is a history of publishing personal data without just cause.
