Re: Re: Re: Long Live Rock! I Need It Every Night Yeah, I've got their stuff, too! I've also got both volumes of "Burning For Buddy", produced by Neil Peart. He and other rock drummers get to play in the Buddy Rich Big Band on these two CD's. Good stuff.
Saw Keb Mo at Music Midtown 2 or 3 years ago. Awesome! Did a song called "Where's My Daddy?" that brought a tear to my eye. But Duran Duran??? Gimmee a break! Singer sounds like Bill Murray's lounge singer!
Agreed on some adding some more...... I would second (or third) a number of the previous posts, i.e., Led Zeppelin II Police-Synchronicity Big Brother w/ Janis - Cheap Thrills Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (How many of you heard your 1st CD with this album?) Allman Brothers - Live at the Fillmore ZZ Top - Tres Hombres Who's Next Michael Jackson - Thriller (you just hafta look past his weirdness and appreciate the music!) Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced plus a couple that were missed....... Cream - Disraeli Gears (my first taste of Clapton) Crosby, Stills & Nash - Crosby, Still & Nash Doobie Brothers - Toulouse Street or What Were Once Vices... JJ Cale - Naturally (Remember the big old Raccoon on the cover?) And yes, I do listen to music that is less than 20 yrs. old.....just hard to find much that sticks with me!
Like those guitar players, eh? Do you remember Imperillia? (I'm sure I spent that wrong!) I feel the need to pull out my records and cassetts... I wonder where the heck that turntable is...
My list: Clapton - Slowhand Clapton - History of Eric Clapton (Live "Crossroads" may be the best pure guitar solo ever recorded... IMHO) Iron Maiden - Powerslave Deep Purple - Deepest Purple/Perfect Strangers (tie) Three Doors Down. If I was still playing, this is what I would be playing... Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak AC/DC - Dirty Deeds... Def Leppard - Pryomania Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow UFO - Lights out BTW, Clapton is no schlerock. The guy's range and versitility is incredible and is without a doubt one of the best musicians I have ever seen live. Jeff Beck is beyond description. Beckola should have been on my list. Malmsten had incredible technical talent and I have most of his albums and they are incredible. But his is basically playing funky classical scales at light speed (although very cleanly) and lord help you if you tune into one of his songs where there is singing! Steve Morse will blow your mind! Since we are on guitar players, here is my favs, in no order: Clapton Jeff Beck Steve Morse Eddie Van Halen Ritchie Blackmore Robin Trower Michael Schaenker Frank Marino Malmsteen Jimi Nigel Tufnel Damn, I just realized I'm getting old!
Oh... it gets worse (Also in no order ... that would take too long to figure out) 1) The Mission UK - 'God's own Medicine' 2) Depeche Mode - 'Music for the Masses' 3) The Cure - 'Disintegration' 4) The Sisters of Mercy - 'Floodland' 5) Peter Murphy - 'Smoke and Mirriors' 6) Joe Satriani - 'Surfing with the Alien' 7) David Bowie - 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust' (or the actual soundtrack from the movie) 8) AC/DC - 'Back in Black' 9) Metallica - 'Master of Puppets' 10) Social Distortion ' Ball and Chain' - Roach
