Slicks vs Dot ?

A guy I pitted next to at RRR gave me an eye opener. He said he had had

the same set of slicks on his 01 GSXR 750 since July. He's an upper middle

pack/lower fast guy. He said slicks WAAAAAAAY out last DOTs. Is this

generally the case? I gots a set of slicks in the garage but I've never used

them or any other slicks. I think he was on micholins, I run Pirellis.

 

Ah, okay. What's he running, old Daytona Bowling Ball comp slicks?

 

I tried a year + old michelin slicks once.

 

Shoulder shrug.

He used to flat track, so maybe he just likes em when they're all over the shop.

 

There's a story there. Lowside? Highside? Did you burn up on re-entry?

80mph lowside from rear letting go in turn 13 @ jennings. Never had a slip from that set of tires untill that one. Not once they slipped, so I kept riding on them. Damage was minor.

 

Yes slick way out last DOT's I can use the same slick 4 or 5 trackdays flipping them 1 day. Dot's may last me 2 or 3. I'm no fast guy. I run 1:22 ish at summit.

 

Just check which classes you can legally run slicks in before you change.
