Safety wire drilling

Not that it would happen, but suppose someone removed a bolt and forgot which facet he or she wanted to drill for safety wire. Is there any problem drilling a hole on each facet? (This might come up also if someone had a new compression washer that he or she didn't want to waste by torqueing the bolt into position before drilling.) And while we're on the subject of safety wire, does it make any difference what size safety wire is used?

    Thanks

If it is a bolt that will be removed often( ie: brake caliper bolts) you are better off drilling all sides of the bolt head, that way it won't matter what bolt you put where. Otherwise use a marker or punch and mark the side of the bolt that you want to drill before you remove it. Use the larger diameter safety wire on the bigger bolts ( axle's, brake caliper bolts, header bolts) and then use the smaller diameter safety wire on areas where you may not have as much room to work with.
