Anyone following this? It's completely amazing. The final jump is scheduled for next week. http://www.redbullstratos.com/
They say he wants to "make a freefall jump rushing toward earth at supersonic speeds". What happened to terminal velocity? Am I missing something here?
The speed of sound varies with temperature and altitude. IIRC, Joe Kittinger is the first man to go supersonic without the aid of a vehicle.
Joe Kittinger did not go supersonic, but close at 614 mph. No man (edit to add or women) has yet to break the sound barrier without propulsion.
Yeah, air resistance. There's almost none at the altitude he's jumping from. Kittinger didn't go supersonic. If he did, this jump wouldn't be taking place.
