Anyone here have experience running the hill climb? Looking to give it a shot this summer and looking for a little insight.
PM me with a phone number and a time to call you. I'll be driving 8 hrs today, so I'll have time to tell you all about Pikes Peak 2009. Also, I have a boatload of photos. I prep'd 2 bikes: 1965 BSA Hornet in a Trackmaster frame and a 2001 Honda XR650R motard. Both bikes made it to the top. Both 1st rookies in class (Vintage and 750 respectively). It is a fun event. 2010 will be run June 26 - earlier than last year. Significant discount for early entry. Course is currently 1/2 dirt, 1/2 road. Dirt is rapidly disappearing. I like the transponder mounting position. Thought about that but we'd have too many totaled every year
Badass. What do you need to do to qualify for the PPHC? I have wanted to give it a go since the moment I first read about it.
they ask for a resume but I've heard of people with very little experience entering. details are here; http://www.ppihc.com/content.aspx?tabid=2&contentid=166 83bsa, saw those pics on advrider, looks cool. where were you able to do your high altitude testing? what is the staring interval and where do they hold tech?
Tech is held in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn, Colorado Springs, the Tuesday before the Sunday race: It's pretty loose . . . but do NOT have any numbers less than 6"! That is the MOST critical element of tech, altho' they did comment that one of my BSA's had a bit of oil on it . . . . Go figure. Call me, I'll clue you in on the double top secret test location. Practice at O' dark thirty every morning sucks . . . . You're up at 2:30 AM to be on the mountain at 4:30 AM So you can start practice runs at 5:30 AM after a riders meeting But once you make it to the top, you're virtusally on top of the world, and there is no feeling like it in racing motorcycles . . . Cheers,
Another try . . . I don't know why the red x's appear. So, I'll try again. Tech in the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Colorado Springs P Lot:
And again . . . . Top secret test ground . . . . 1st morning at 2:30 AM: Cold & dark at 12,700 ft @ 4:30 AM:
And finally . . . . Coming down the Mountain after you've made it to the top is one of the greatest racing experiences . . . Sean, notice the WERA helmet inspection sticker . . ?
