I only got to know him through my Step-Mom and her stories. I wish I got to know him more than that. People like him sacrificed so much and expected so little in return. She had some great stories as he was her closest sibling. Following service, he went into law enforcement. Although he lived just the last few years in an assisted living facility, my Dad and Step-mom said he loved it there. Had a lot of people around him that he could relate to and with and made many friends while he was there. Best thing was that my Dad and Step-mom just saw him last Friday and Saturday as they were traveling back home after wintering in Florida and made a swing over to Louisiana to see him. He was not sick or had any inclination he was at the very end, but at 99, every day could be the last I guess. I am just glad they got to see him that one more time before he passed Tuesday.
Very impressive indeed! I fear we will never see the likes of these true gentlemen, patriots again. RIP
