Here is one for for you founts of knowledge. I'm looking for a: 550cc to 750cc 4 or 3 inline cylinder. Aircooled. Shaft drive. Early eighties on up. Streetbike. Have fun.
K75 was watercooled. Yamaha Seca II I believe fits your bill. That's all I can come up with of the top of my head.
GS750G was a GS850G with a 748 cc engine and different handlebars, both models were sport tourers and shaft driven. The GS750G was came out in 79'.
Yamaha's XS750 comes to mind...fits all of your criteria except that I think it was a late 70's bike. Then there's the Suzuki Katana 650...it's an 80's bike. Is there a particular one you're looking for? I have a feeling there's another that I'm forgetting...
Cool that most of the misses are "self correcting". My reason for asking, is that I am toying with building what is called nowadays an "adventure bike". Long travel suspension for going off road, but still useable for highway riding. My initial victim... er candidate was the Seca II, but I thought shaft drive might be interesting. Lower maint. in bad environments but also make the conversion more difficult. The 80's Yamaha and Suzuki 750 and 850s are out because I've had one, and they weigh a ton. But the XJ650 might be interesting... Any other suggestions?
The 650 turbo isn't air cooled. AFAIK, the 650 Katana and the XJ are the only a/c, 650/750, shaft drives bike that were made in the 80's. In any case, any attempt to build a long-travel suspension 'adventure bike' based on an old shatfy will be an unmitigated disaster re: shaft effect and driveshaft geometry IMHO.
No I don't...because I think I'm remembering wrong. What, no credit for coming up with the 650 Katana?
