Have you ridden or driven on it? How'd it go? Did you crash? I've been watching many YouTubes on it recently. Just because you can afford a really expensive car, doesn't make you a good driver at speed. I'll let you search/watch some if interested.
I drove it in a rental Audi A6 3.0 TDI, in the rain. It was really sketchy on corner entry so I took it very easy. Plus I wasn't sure if the insurance covered it if anything happened. We ended up staying in town at Sabine Schmitz's mom's gasthaus and the next day the track was closed for testing so we went and watched a bunch of prototype cars getting flogged...
I drove on it a few times when I was 18 and 19. My dad was stationed in Germany at the time. It was fun. One time I also ended up backwards at 90mph through schwedenkreuz in his family sedan. Somehow I didn’t hit anything.
I rode it on an Africa Twin in 2004. Fun, Fun. Long, fast, hard to remember layout over my 3 lap stint. I was solo and touring, so crashing wasn't much of an option. I took my luggage off and stored it at the café onsite. Definitely an iconic place. Cheers, Dave
Would love to one day but would like to stay ahead of traffic. I've seen the vids and it looks like a total cluster eff. Think I saw a bus cruising along then being overtaken by a bike or supercar at warp speed. Sketchy AF without considering the track conditions.
Been on it 5 or 6 times. All in rentals except once in my old CEO’s 911 T. Was an 08 or 9 IIRC. He was my navigator as he’s been going there since he was a kid. It was a great help and even though I was very cautious in traffic I still went as fast as I felt comfortable about 75% of the track. On the other end of the spectrum I took a diesel focus wagon with winter tires on it. I still had fun but more of a “this thing won’t turn and insurance is null and void” type of fun. Depending on the day you go it can be a complete cluster. Go tues-thurs if you can for the least amount of traffic.
Thanks for the replies- keep 'em posting. The vids I've seen: - There are some excellent drivers on there, cages and bikes - And, I see alot of videos where as soon as the tires started to get loose/drift, the driver hits the brakes- skids and goes into the wall- often very violently I might add. - it seems they'll put anything on it and try and go fast- like a Willy's Jeep, passenger vans, sidecar motorbikes, etc.
I’ve been to 2 Rock festivals at the ring, so, definitely wadded it up there . never on wheels though. IMHO still safer than playing tractor-bingo on back roads.
I hate that place. The Allies should have bombed it every-damn-day right up until this past Wednesday.
yes, BUT: generally tractors and farm equipment are verboten on the Autobahn, but during harvest you will find convoys of dozens going in the correct (right hand) lane, most likely escorted by the police
It's definitely something different. My teenage self knew only one pace. If I were to go back, I would probably keep my pace somewhere between "backroads fun ride/drive" and "trackday".
