I had my matte finish minimoto helmet down in the basement in its bag and box for a bit. Pulled it out to do some UTV trail riding today. The helmet had a sticky, tacky, residue all over it, to include the visor. Like when you first pull a decal off. First, why? Second, is it safe to hit it with a cleaner to try and remove the residue (the kind that Goo Off) tackles? Or, should I mask off the foam bits and spray the helmet with a clear coat to cover whatever crap formed on it. Or, final option, just ditch the helmet?
I had one that did the same. No idea why but I scrubbed the hell outta it with goo gone and got most off. Maybe glue from graphics?
Since you don't know what the sticky stuff is I think I would start with products made to wash/clean automobiles first before messing with solvents. Less likely to damage the finish and it just might work.
