YAMAHA YZ635 Works Magnesium 260mm Drum Brake Up for sale is a ready-to-race wheel built around an extremely rare magnesium hub. This hub is off a factory YZ635 – a works TD3 build for GP racing in Europe for the 1972 season. The hub pictured here was one of as few as four to have been made and they were only raced in Europe. Jarno Saarinen, Rod Gould, Barry Sheene, and Hideo Kanaya all raced YZ 635s. The brake pictured is NOT a replica – this is an original factory piece. It was purchased from a collector in the ‘80s by vintage racer Todd Henning, who fitted the bike to his Drixton-framed Honda 450 and used it to win dozens of races. Todd, Don Emde, and Ferry Brouwer were consulted regarding the hub’s history, and background information provided by them has helped confirm its authenticity. This hub is considerably lighter that the standard aluminum 260mm Yamaha 4LS brake. The aluminum backing plates are in excellent condition, though there is a small dime-sized hole in one ducting screen. (See pictures). Every piece of hardware is present (including the axle, not pictured) making this wheel ready to race. It comes complete with fresh Ferodo linings and is laced to a Sun alloy WM3 rim with stainless spokes. Cables are included, though they show some wear. This is the ONLY YZ635 magnesium brake known to exist in North America. This auction is your ichance to own an unobtainable works Yamaha magnesium 4LS brake. The buyer will also receive an original Yamaha Factory brake balancer (cable splitter) as well as a set of 4 NOS brake shoes.
