so any tips and tricks to this bathroom renovation stuff.

What's the best wall material for the shower area? rest of the wall?

Also, the cast iron tub needs to go, wife's wishes and well it's pink, any better pan setup than another?

Anything less than this and you'll have the "clapped out sv" of bathrooms.

if you still make it (like i did with those 2 chambers of death) , there's tons of options. schluter/Kerdi system , coated drywall, concrete boards with or without moisture barrier, ...
what level of DIYare you aiming at?

check out youtube vids on bathroom remodel. a lot to learn there.

leaving plumbing in place? same faucets?

which portion do you want to outsource? because if i was i tile guy, i'd not accept the wall from a DIY'er ... i barely accepted mine :D

outsource getting rid of the tub for sure. not sure what's all involved in converting it into a stand up shower setup.

It's a small bathroom, 5x7, but it's also the main one.

You can break that tub up with a 2lb. sledge hammer pretty easily.

If you're looking for a 3-4, is an acrylic base, with solid surface walls an option?

You can do the tub yourself and save money. Put a big heavy moving blanket over it and take a sledgehammer to hit, break it up into little pieces to carry out. Definitely use the concrete board for the shower walls.

For me, that would be fine. The wife I think wants a tile base and walls. hopefully we can compromise. ok, so tile base and walls.

After your pool adventure, might want to consider 3rd party installation. :D

Hear me now, or believe me later, demo it yourself, get a plumber to rework your drain, and hire a tile guy.

    LOL.

I did figure out the pool, it's a leaking elbow, but I can care less. After like 15 lessons, My kids still can't swim, and neither can I.
I don't really want a situation where we all die trying to save each other. So until we can swim, or at least they can confidently, it'll stay closed.

I would keep your same footprint, using a new jet equipped tub, and shower enclosure. New vanity, sink, faucets, tile, paint, lights, fan. You might miss the tub, and a jet tub is nice. It will be a brand new bathroom, but easier than converting to a new shower only.
