Looking for something that won't turn to jelly over time. Needed for fuel pump bolts that are actually exposed in the tank, so will always bathed in gas. Considerations for me is ease of use, ability to come easily remove, and a bonus would be if it would also be good as a gasket dressing at the mating surface of the tank. Thanks in advance.
Thanks guys. I’m trying to get the best stuff I can as the ends of the bolts are exposed in the tank directly to fuel. Homemade tank that leaves something to be desired. Is there a cure time for most of these before filling tue tank again?
I think its mainly meant for valves, threads, etc. I wouldnt use it as the sole sealant for a flat surface. It doesnt harden or film form so it could be extruded out of a flat surface.
1184 is the only sealant I keep in the shop, works on everything for me. I put a THIN coat on old float bowls/gaskets and petcocks regularly, never had any issues.
Bar of soap. Just make sure water doesn't touch it. Old trick for sealing leaking gas tanks in a pinch (or when you dont have the cash to replace the tank on your 1978 Camaro and it leaks when over half full, and you are stilll in high school). Take a bar of soap and rub it into the hole. Leak stops. Gas will not dissolve it.
