That thing sounds nasty, can't wait to hear is thundering down the front straight at Indy even if they are two minutes off the pace.
I remember reading that 'stone is super insane about their tires. You need them ('stones tire techs) on site, you don't get the tires even 1 hour before the test and they are spooning the tires off the rim even before they cool when the test is over.
You have to pay for the bridgestone techs to come over to tire test. I'm sure this is just a shake down since they will be testing at COTA soon.
... and im pretty sure the tires arent free for testing, unlike during race weekends where Dorna foots the bill.
All true. Total cost for a weekend test is around $10,000.00 They fly in with their tires and fly out with them. Had some beers with a couple techs at Laguna last round....crazy stories!
Kinda all true. Team and rider sign a stack of papers before using anything. At Indy test last year a set of tires is around $1200. Team is responsible for travel costs for 1 tech and 1 fitter. 2 teams shared the cost at the indy test. Costs are estimated in advance and you pay, if you pay too much you get the balance back. They mount what you need in advance and the tires sit on warmers for a minimum of 1 hour. It was OK to leave the tires on the tire tree overnight in our garage. They were quick about getting the tires off the rims if they were used. COTA test is this month and being organized by bridgestone. Another test is scheduled in march for a couple factory teams. So far two bikes/teams will attend the COTA test.
