Simple mistake, yes. Easy to avoid, and not hard to display properly. May seem over the top to some, but for some of us, displaying the flag properly and getting it right is important.

Flag etiquette with Americans is a real weird thing. You guys put that shit on everything including your assless chaps but God forbid you let a flag fly upside down. Somehow my and my father got into this discussion and I was wondering why I didn't see the Polish flags being flaunted everywhere (as I do here in US with starts and stripes) when I was there and he said that it was a sign of respect. You don't just fly the flag for shits or giggles or put it on items or tattoes for commercial reasons. So yeah. Flag etiquette.
Interestingly enough the stars forward isn't part of the code but has become a things since the military started allowing it. Used to be stars left top as you looked at it no matter what.
I didn't think twice about this until spending some time outside of US. Once you get used to the country flag coming out on special days only, and people paying attention to those days, seeing the flag here every day starts to feel over the top. It goes down the same path of having the national anthem played/sung before nearly every event, large or small.

Correction: Army Regulation 670-1, which states that “the correct and only way to wear the U.S. flag patch on a uniform is with the stars facing forward.”
I'm confused, how does that correct what I posted? The Army didn't care, now cares. I.E. "used to be" which if you follow logically with the preceding comment I made also means "is no longer"...
