We got a 2012 1000RR traded in at my car dealership. I had pretty much convinced myself to buy it when I realized it has a digital tach. I HATE DIGITAL TACHS. I want a dial, and a pointy thingy. Since the 2012 was more like a facelift then a new bike, any chance an earlier model [08-11] gauge cluster would swap on giving me a normal tach?
It's been done, I don't know how. I had the same thought when I got my '12 but I barely look at it when riding. I set the RPM programmable shift light to catch me before I do anything stupid. Outside of that, operating the instrument is worse than programmin' a VCR. If you don't have the owners manual, you'll need it. Its lack of clarity combined with the two operating buttons that are completely un-intuitive and you should be able to muddle through to at least set the clock.
