So what is the real, functional difference b/t these recent model years of RS125s? Why would I want to a ’99 over a ’97, other than a ’97 presumably has more miles on it?

HRC included a powerjet carburator in the 98 and up models. Also the porting is different including the footprint of the cylinder. Chassis is the same. We have a 97 and 98 and 98% of parts are interchangeable. The 98 seems to have a bit more torque coming out of turns but the 97 is still everybit as fast. Both are in stock condition. It really depends on setup and jetting. Every RS will have it's own "character" and "personality". Hope this helps.
