Custom metal trim for auto...is that a thing?

I have a 1998 GMC truck. Don't plan on selling it. Had it repainted a few years ago and put new impact strips on [with the chrome top]. All that "chrome" has faded away in the AZ sun. I don't want to put new moulding on every couple of years, so I thought maybe a metal worker could make strips to glue to the moulding and eliminate the problem. Is that even a thing?

Well, I just priced out OEM moulding again since it actually lasted 20yrs the first time and its $625. So less then that haha
