BBS-isms

So I was on FB this evening and one of my friends wondered aloud what to get her 16 year old son for Christmas and was looking for suggestions. Without thinking until 2 seconds after hitting the send button, I said hookers and blow.

I'm sure I'm not the first one that has used a BBS-ism in a different context and the people you use it towards don't get it. What stories are out there of these BBS-isms being used where the people just didn't understand?

 

I type "idtio" on other boards and get corrected constantly

 

Not from here, but moran is a staple at STN.net.

Guads is the preferred spelling for quads on a cycling forum as often spelled by an idtio on there.

 

"Wow do you people love"



is always mis-interpreted.

 

I also just say "on the beeb" and no one knows WTF I'm talking about...

 

I've also used the WFO and people have no idea what I'm saying.

Too funny. Several times a week I start a sentence with "this
dude on the beeb" or "I bet somebody on the beeb knows". Other people say "what the hell is a beeb?"

My wife rolls her eyes...
