    HPPT !!!

I would bet that it wasn't children that the artist intended to offend with that piece.

    chuckbear Totally radical, bro.

This is what drives me absolutely batshit about the state of our country and politics. I can completely disagree in principle with someone and still respect their motives when they've got a basis for their beliefs, but I have a bunch of friends that can't see anything but evil and treachery when they know someone is from the other party. I don't know if it's just that most of my friends are RWNers, but most of the hate I see is coming from the Right.

On that note, I fully believe that Obama is doing what he thinks is right and good for this country. I believe he loves this country and I think it's absurd to suggest he's trying to take down the US; the amount I see comments thrown out along those lines absolutely baffles me, and I just hope to Flying Spaghetti Monster that the people that say stuff like that don't actually believe it. That said, I still think the dude is dead wrong on a lot of things and disagree with him on a lot of issues.

Seems like there's a lot of unnecessary hate flying out there and it absolutely kills the productivity of dialogue.

And that's the point. What was the intent, other than to stick a thumb in the eyes of those that believe? Towards what end was it done?
They don't believe, fine, neither do I, but why antagonize people over something that really makes no difference? To show your mental superiority?
The supposed point they were trying to bring out is no secret, Christmas is very commercialized and has been for 100 years. It's part of the mix, Christmas is as much a secular holiday as religious. What's wrong with that?
It means to you what it means to you.
It's at least a positive thing, so I fail to see the harm.
Sure, you have the right to speak out against it, but don't be surprised when you're called out for needlessly being an asshole because you chose to pick a fight when none was called for.

Um, yeah, the cross part would be the religious bit...

You're trying to tell me the cross in 2011 isn't a symbol of a religion? The swastika was a cool emblem too til the late 30's...

My neighbor believes that Chem-trails are all part of Obama's plan to rid the world of 5 billion people. He believes that Chem-trails will change the climate. He also believes climate change is false. Yes, you just read that. Go ahead, read it again, I'll wait. See what I mean?

He also believes that watering the yard from the tap will kills his lawn, but when it rains his lawn grows great. He thinks when he sees "chem-trails" he can smell it in the air. So the chem-trails are supposed to be killing us, but it makes the grass grow, but the rain that falls and fills the reservoir and comes out of the tap is different.

Oh ya, Obama is the devil and we will be a Socialist nation on November 3rd, 2012.

I love talking to him, its like.....talking to you guys. :D

I would absolutely concede that Christians have adopted the cross as a religious symbol, and that nailing a figure to a cross reinforces a parallel with Christ.

That doesn't mean I think it's any less silly that people are getting all bent out of shape over it.

The 'artist' wanted a rise out of people. Looks like he succeeded.

the message may have been delivered in a distasteful manner, but "christmas is overly commercialized, and presents have nothing to do with the birth of Christ" is a message I happen to agree with.

there are worse things that could be happening than parents explaining to their kids that an 'artist' thinks that we spend months thinking about presents, and only a day or two actually celebrating the birth of Christ.

I totally agree it's all stupid shit and geting upset over it is ridiculous. But no more ridiculous than him doing it in the first place. All it comes down to though is my original post was merely saying the idiot who said it wasn't attacking a religion was wrong.

commenting on religion and attacking religion are not one in the same.

If I nailed a WERA logo to a cross, would I be attacking religion then? "in 2011," I really don't think Santa is any more religious than the WERA logo.

They symbolize the presents the wise been brought to the manger.

Which doesn't make today's festivities severely commercialized.
