i believe most are well intended. if you are really not up to it, just do like i did when i was a kid. my eyes would roll and glaze over, i would cross my arms on my chest and tap my foot. every word went in one ear and out the other (i'm not saying that is not a necessary skill, selective use is important...). when the person finally quit jawing, i said, "are you done now?" and then I stormed away fuming about what a dork they were. btw, i never missed ANY important info growing up...
