Here's the deal, track day at mid-ohio on Sunday and the weather is predicted to be a high of 39 with snow flurries.
    WTF??!!
I dont mind wet weather at all, but doing 100+ at that temp would suck.

Think of it this way... What type of ROI are you going to get out of the weekend. You could learn the track and go slow. IMHO, you can;t do squat at 39 degrees except freeze your butt off... Unless your racing and no one else shows, you can get cheap wood..

just a note .. we were going to be there for both days and when the wife e-mailed to ask about transferring to a different weekend the reply was ... " our events run reguardless of weather conditions." nuff said. we canceled and are out $550.00 beacuse we dont want to drive 8+ hours to ride in the snow. ohh well there are other places and org's to go ride with.

The track keeps the money rain or shine. Why should the trackday company refund riders that aren't willing to show if the weather looks bad?

That's our problem as well - the track, ambulances, corner workers, insurance company and everyone else we pay bills to wants their money so we can't refund for bad weather - especially if we run our event.

I hear you guys. I'm in the same predicament.
I booked both days at mid-ohio.
however, i booked them last monday hoping the weather forecast would be more accurate closer to the event.

well.. it was showing partly cloudy & a high of 65, and now it's showing F$#($#@-ing SNOW!!

    to go or not go....

I still haven't decided (note i don't own a trailer, so i'll have to rent one too... ).

who wants to bet it's going to be 75 degrees & sunny on tuesday?

bullshat weatherforecasters. they couldn't predict the time of day..

I'll be there Both days, Snow or Sun. I was supposed to go to Beaver but the fact that my wife is due in 2 1/2 weeks, she didn't think I shuold go that far away. So I figured I would just go to Mid-OH.

Lovely weather. Oh well, Atleast I'll get to turn laps and practice for the AMA/WERA race there.

I was expecting the same for VIR in March.

The weatherman called for flurries/showers the morning of both days and it turned out to be in the upper 50's and sunny (mostly) both days!!

Even if the Wman is right, it won't be snowing during the afternoon races, maybe just a cold wet race.

I came to a conclusion a long time ago to stop worrying about weather and racing and to just show up at the track and bring the rains and let the weather gods do their thing and I'll do mine, even if that means I dont feel like racing in the rain that day.

Can you do a half day for the trackday at Mid Ohio?? Just do the afternoon.

    my 2 cents.
    well,

it sounds like you guys have wet weather gear...
so you shouldn't be too bad.

my point is that why doesn't STT offer an 'insurance' policy like TPM does for a couple extra $$. for $25 extra, TPM lets you cancel at any time, sleep in from a hangover, whatever...they'll just give you credits toward another trackday.

STT is still making a profit on you, regardless of if you go or not.
i understand the argument that they'd lose money if everyone cancelled if bad weather seemed iminent. but hell, they don't even have any kind of rain/monsoon/hail cancellation policy in effect at mid-ohio. even if you did cancel, they wouldn't really lose any money if they just gave you back the profit they turned on your registration fees.

    i don't get it.

I was going to sign up for the mid-o trackdays but at this time of the year its too much of a gamble, be more productive to take my $500 or so and go to atlantic city :D

    :D

I wouldn't even trust the weather at pocono until may, let along western PA.

AC is only 50 minutes away... man I should skip a couple more races hahaha

I do need to get to mid-o some time before the national though

I guess I dont understand why you are upset about their policy. It was in effect when you purchased the track time. They offer more competitive rates all of the time. I suppose if they charged 10-20% more for all events it would not be a problem for STT to have a rain/snow policy, but they chose to offer lower rates with an assumed risk for all. FYI I have lost out due to bad weather before so I understand it sucks. If they run the event, only you can chose if its worth riding in.

There is overhead in administering these events (processing orders, track negotiations, printing costs, promotion etc). They have to purchase the track time even if nobody signs up. You win some, you lose some.

i see. not to argue, but STT is $50 more than TPM for a trackday. my main point of complaint is that STT doesn't mention anywhere on their site that mid-ohio doesn't cancel due to inclimate weather.

    oh well.....

to think of the fun i could've had at atlantic city w/ $400 to burn....
    boo..

    Greg,

Our policy is stated as follows on our website:

All Sportbike Track Time venues have a "rain-or-shine policy" (except Grattan weekdays). For Grattan weekdays, we will issue a rain check good for a future weekday "make up" event at Grattan. The track facility or SportbikeTrackTime will call rain days, you must be present to receive a voucher. Rain-check vouchers are non-transferable and expire 12 months from date of issue. Sorry, there are no exceptions

We rode all day Saturday with about 25 riders. Yes it was a bit wet and was cold. Sunday was a total loss due to snow.

BTW - How much does TMP charge for Mid-Ohio?
