Anybody now how he is? He crashed pretty bad in the Lwt ss race at the end of the day at Summit. Ran off in turn 10 and missed the gravel trap and slid into the tire wall.
Doh - forgot, he called the office and the toal dmage is one leg and shattered ankle. He's already been plated and screwed back together and was well enough to call so he must be doing okay all things considered. Evidently went down in T10 late, slid into the tire wall feet first and the bike followed him in.
Thanks for asking. I hit a false neutral down shifting for turn ten. I tried to make the turn but I couldn't slow down enough and I ran off the track. I noticed the tire wall coming real fast so I bailed of my bike. However, I slid into the tire wall legs first then my bike ended up on top of me. My left leg is broken along with my left ankle. I laid suffering in bed at Jefferson Memorial Hospital for 24 hours before they took me in for surgery. They put in two screws to reattach my ankle and used 6 screws and a titanium plate to repair my broken leg. I am still in serious pain and I have a long recovery coming.
Sounds pretty painful. It looked pretty scary from the tower in turn 10. We saw you slide into the wall and the bike laying on top of you. Glad it wasn't worse. It has been fun racing with you this year and Congrats on your regional championship(s)?
Phil, sorry to hear about your accident. Please heal quick. In addition, definitely get checked out by another doctor. Not to add insult to injury, but a customer of ours crashed at Summit a few months ago and had leg surgery...he has since had three more surgeries to correct what had been done wrong at Jefferson. Take care of yourself and we look forward to seeing you back out on the track.
Phil, glad to hear you are doin better. I saw the dust and next lap I saw your bike. Gimme a shout if you need anything.
Phil, heal up quick. Hate to hear the bad news. Evidently the "007 Smoke Screen" trick is much more useful than the ol' "False Neutral" trick. Congrats on the HWT win ($$$). Tell the Doctors we need you for the Cup Final!!!! Best wishes for a speedy recovery (like, 3 weeks, right?).
Phil, I am glad to hear that it wasn't as bad as I was first told it was. I know that a shattered ankle and a broken leg with plates and screws is not good but survivable. I learned a great deal from you this year trying to follow you around at both Summit and VIR. Thanks for making me faster. Get well soon!!!! I hope to see you at the track next year. Oh,ya. Traveling on airplanes will now be a bit more of a pain in the ass. My plates and screws always set off the metal detectors and sometimes I get to take my pants off in the little booth to prove I don't have a shotgun in my pants. Stay in touch and let us know about your progess and if we can do anything. You know me as Pop Pop
Hey Phil, Sorry to hear about your injuries! If you're looking to follow up with another doctor, I have a good ankle specialist in Arlington I'd be happy to recommend. He did some good work on my ankle after I broke it off last year (1 plate and 10 screws). Almost one year and tons of phsical therapy later and I'm back to 90-95%. I can also recommend a good PT...PM me if you want info. --Melissa
You're hurt? I better stick up the whole foods while you're off duty. Sorry to hear about the leg. Don't feel bad about 24 hours. Jefferson left me on a soft bed for three days with a broken back. Get well soon. See you on the job.
