I could knock about 1000 holes in the "logic" and "reasoning" expressed in this thread but it would be a waste of my time. After all, just hours after the accident the NTSB held a press conference to declare that "this was just an accident, nothing to see here" and you all bought it because that's what you want to believe. No further investigation needed. A perfect example of why Astroturfing works so well. Not that any of you are even aware of how it works and what it does. But hey, some guy you never heard of (and who works for the company that the ship was under contract to) supposedly penned a letter filled with his guesses at what happened and you're all on board with his "explanation" (pun intended). The ship's pilots have yet to be interviewed but the internet expert provided you with the explanation you want, so why would you question anything? https://thebaltimorepost.com/2024/0...ted-to-rare-catastrophic-key-bridge-collapse/ Everything went wrong in the exact worst way. For decades, countless ships sailed under the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Each one tacitly presented a threat, but rarely in reality: The vessels steered safely through the shipping channel, bringing cars and commerce and jobs to Baltimore. But on Tuesday morning, when an inconceivably heavy ship that reported a power outage hit a largely unprotected bridge pier, the 47-year-old bridge immediately crumbled. The crash killed six men, took down a piece of Baltimore’s skyline and indefinitely interrupted a key transportation and economic cog. It was the perfect catastrophe. A ship losing power is rare. A bridge being that vulnerable to collapse is rare. A ship minutes into a monthlong journey to Sri Lanka apparently losing the ability to navigate at the exact, split-second wrong moment is especially rare. One minute later or one minute earlier and the ship might have simply run aground, a harmless nuisance. Reading that article alone should put a dozen obvious questions in your head which might lead a person to do a lot more reading but I'm sure that reassurances from shipping and transportation expert Pete Buttigieg are all you need. I wasn't surprised that nobody had any interest in actually watching the video. Here's the weather at the time of the collision. https://www.wunderground.com/history/daily/KBWI/date/2024-3-26 The windspeed was zero. There was no fog. Keep guessing. Oddly enough, I read that the FBI is investigating the incident. As far as I know, the FBI has nothing to do with how ships operate mechanically and would have no technical knowledge that might be relevant so why on earth would they be involved? After all, this is just an accident, with no possibility that it could be anything but an accident. Perhaps I should get in touch with them and refer them to the WERA BBS so they will know that they can stop wasting their time. I should probably also refer any other agencies involved in the investigation to read this thread as the whole thing has been explained by the experts here, no reason for them to waste their time duplicating the investigatory efforts of the Beeb.
Ya know what, I'm convinced. I'm also now convinced that every time I've shown up to the track with a bike that was running the weekend before, and had nothing changed on it but suffered a mechanical that weekend was ALSO clearly a conspiracy... THEY didn't WANT me to race...
A barge just hit a bridge in OK, shutting down a US highway. Are we now, as a country, under attack, @In Your Corner ?
I spent 7 years in the merchant marine and during that time I can remember at least 3 blackouts, probably the real number was at least double that, with one resulting in running aground.
Comments like this one are truly stupid by renaming DG, HAZMAT cargo the attention grabbing name “hazardous waste”, when the great majority of the 764 tons of the “waste” is secure in the undamaged containers, and at the same time not knowing, or ignoring the simple fact a container loaded with, for example harmless paint thinner would be classified as hazardous “waste”.
It's funny to watch people try to come up with complicated explanations when it's obvious: boat driver probably got jabbed that morning.
Ships have hit the bridges to my island 3 times in history, knocking them down. Is that also a conspiracy ? People sitting home on the couch have no idea how much shit goes wrong with tugboats, docks, dredges, gantry cranes, ships, barges etc. Happens all the time. Granted.....this one is pretty fucked up
Dude… I shit you not! I walked into a little bait shop/diner yesterday and the chick had on…. Overall shorts… little more than a sports bra up top but naked midriff with that open access leaving you to wonder about the rest… I was like damn! They’re all reading our minds… or the BBS
This bridge really had a design flaw. Hitting the pier shouldn't have caused parts of the bridge on the other side of the next pier to collapse. (the only sections that should have fallen, were the ones connected to the pier the ship hit.)
