Let’s hope this is accurate! https://archive.is/2023.12.08-05145...atek-philippe-luxury-swiss-watch-boom-is-over
When they announced only 8900 units it was almost like the Swatch Moonwatch deal. Nobody had them except eBay folks at twice retail. Mine came from a jeweler in the Tampa/ St.Pete area. Last I looked they were showing 25 available at $425 and free shipping.
It’s amazing the marketing campaign and brainwashing Rolex has achieved. They have people convinced they have something unique and “limited”. They make OVER a MILLION Watches a year. Truly remarkable .
Kidding right? Go ask a random guy who owns a Rolex how many watches they make a year . He ain’t gonna say a million. He prolly hasn’t even thought about how many they make . Yea most Rolex people I talk to think there watch is unique.
Bush!?! No. wait that was the old manual. Hang on. I have the updated version around here...Trump!!! Its trumps fault!!??
Help me out. I’m helping a close friend buy his first mechanical. He has a son and wants something heirloom quality but doesn’t quite have an omega or Tudor budget. Seiko comes to mind but I’m no expert outside of the 007s and turtles. GMT hand is preferred. This started with him asking for input on a Pagoda TF. It’s time and date only and has a Sellita movement. Aesthetically it’s cool but seems like another pop up brand to me. He’s a tier 1 JSOC guy and wants military/tool watch styling. Any ideas?
If he's looking for military/tool, he should look at https://rescoinstruments.com/. A bunch of Seals that like watches. The Seiko 5 GMT would be the best start for him, then he could give that to his son and upgrade when he can. LINK Baltic GMT is another good one: https://baltic-watches.com/en Armida makes a very good watch with lots of options. I have this one in Green, no date: LINK https://www.chrono24.com/magazine/affordable-gmt-watches-that-fly-under-the-radar-p_115254/#gref
I’d check out Oris. Over built, good quality and reasonable in pricing. Not an investment watch but something you could hand down.
Ball watches might be a cool fit for him too... the tritium vials are a cool feature few others have.
