How big of place? 1 or 2 story? Besides streaming porn what else do you use it for? The new Wi-Fi 6 stuff has a bit more range than the older stuff, so may not need anything more than a Wi-Fi 6 router.
Orbi here. 3k sq ft and I have one satellite in the garage, which projects the network out to the front of my driveway roughly 50 yards away. Total coverage in my house, very very happy with the Orbi product.
Just ranged it, 47.2 yards from the closest satellite on garage wall to my ring camera at front of driveway. Signal is strong out there and I get live videos smoothly.
~2200 sq ft ranch, basement. Socal's info sounds about what I want to do. Thanks fellas. I'll look at Orbi.
I have an eero pro 6 (2 of them) in my house, 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs. Mostly happy with it. Though not a whole lot of configuration can be done to it and its all (only) managed through phone app.
I had Orbi and Spectrum Internet, and then switched to Frontier gig service and they gave me an Eero mesh system for free. I figure it’s hand picked to perform great so I use it. 1st day I’m dropping out of Zoom calls all day with low network bandwidth. After much trouble shooting and no resolution, I’m getting ready to cancel the gig service and go back to spectrum and I decided to just plug in my Orbi router into the base Eero and connect to the Orbi wifi. Boom, back to good performance but now with higher speed. Maybe a newer or a pro Eero is better, but I’ll be sticking with Orbi for sure. Whatever they are doing with a back haul network works really good and I’m getting 500mbps via wifi everywhere. 1000 if I’m close to the base router or using an Ethernet cable. TLDR:/ Orbi
I don't know if you keep on top of the firmware updates, but apparently Eero has been through quite a few, and some actually do address problematic issues. Most of the web conferencing I've done through it has been fairly stable, and my Xfinity connection is only about 300-400MB if I remember correct.
eero is great. i personally like the ease of the Google/Nest ones...but i prefer the 1st gen Google ones.
well i said 1st gen Google, which doesnt have the speakers for Google Home. and if you're one of those tinfoil hat wearers, just realize that anything can be tapped at anytime with any of your smart devices like a cellphone cameras or microphones....not to mention the cameras at airports with facial recognition
As I sit here with no IoT devices in my network and my phone sitting face down in a microfiber towel. Call me well aware.
Yeah, they were up to date when I installed them. I couldn’t work another day remotely like that so I didn’t keep using them to see if they got better with a future update. I mean I had them in the identical location as the Orbis. The speed test and latency were okay (not great but okay) but I was still getting a bad connection through zoom and Skype. Maybe they didn’t like the VPN I have to use. Whatever it is, the Orbi was perfect. I’ve got the free Eero mesh router in a drawer for when Frontier wants it back.
