Have a buddy who wants to get back into racing but he's a cheap ass. Advice?

The dude used to race 'back in the day' wants to get back in but only has $5K to spend. I mean, who only spends $5K on a racebike? Panigale R or don't even bother amiright?

Advice for this guy? How will he even buy tires?

 

Theoretically racing a clapped out 250 Ninja is "cheap." But gas, hotels, beer, and food for a weekend adds up quick regardless of the bike.

 

That’s prob enough for a cheap bike, a set of tires, and one weekend of racing. Hopefully he already owns gear.

 

Lend him one of the TZ fleet.

 

Thats about my annual budget.

Ninja 250: $1200
$700 x 5 weekends = 3500

Almost enough left over for a tire and a half.

I have nearly new carbs in a freezer bag I'll throw in so he can hit the ground running.

 

Why are you keeping your carbs in the freezer ?

If he doesn't bite I'm really interested. I want a small bike to help my build skills.

5k is plenty. Hell he could get a clapped out SV and tires entries for a few weekends

What you can’t have more than 2 or 3 friends, and they both want to race…..that’s cool.

Too bad for him you are sponsoring me. Unless you are forming a 3 racer team, because I’m assuming you are going to race, and I plan on putting the smack down on my sponsor.
