Threw a code for #4 cylinder.
I removed and regapped the spark plug, it was way out of spec. If I remember ..39-.41 is correct.
I switch #4 coil to #1 and cleared the code.

Code came back for #4 cylinder.

Can the spark plugs give out and die?

Plug was clean and looked good.

Hopefully it's nothing internal going on...burnt valves or some shizz.

    What's my move

Yes they can. They can foul which might not be visually apparent. Just had one the other day, gap worn excessive, likely burned through insulation internally to ground. Either move the plug and see if it changes like the coil or just replace. If its worn that far you have to regap just do a full on tune up so you dont chaseyour tail later

Cheers Spitz. I'll pickup new plugs, they're quite inexpensive.

I had a Tacoma with the 4.0 and it was shaking and making strange noises. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the transmission (under warranty) Took them a whole month and on the way home started hearing the same noise. Turned out to be a plug knock. Changed the spark plugs and boom, noise totally gone. Those motors are supposed to change plugs every 30k miles according to the manual

Yep. Change the plugs. I went through this half a year ago with my v6 tundra. NGKs are cheap enough to to just get 6 new ones

They actually come from the factory with one side NGK and one side Denso. Its been talked about a bunch on Tacomaworld.

My 4.0 in my x runner had both brands. Weird. How many miles on it? They had some head gasket issues fixed after 2005. Usually around 150k.. Redesigned head gaskets. Notice any steam from the plug hole when you removed the plug hot?

No steam, engine was warm. 283,000 miles. I sold it to my dispatcher 13 months ago.
That damn coil connector on #2 cylinder is a wee shite to get back on.

Used the cardboard piece from the cheap/dry cleaners hangers to get the new plugs started. Easy to feel if they're cross threading.

Old plugs were gapped .55 to .59

Hopefully her fuel economy gets better.
She drove 90 miles yesterday and used 1/4 tank.

Strange they'd use Denso and NGK's.

Wow, never heard of mixing brands from the OEM. Obviously the Toyota had a reason, just seems really odd.

Yeah NGK on the right bank, Denso on the left.. I thought it was an assembly fluke..

Just did a beer run with Candice driving. Heading up hill doing 8/10mph I ask her too gun it.
She made a gun gesture with her hand and pretended to shoot me...plakoosh up

She'd no idea what I meant.

Further on up the hill she floored it and tires chirped. Completely different truck now.

She's driven 32k in 13 months....I'd hate to be paying for that fuel.

And the darn CEL came onoagain today.
Trucks not here so I can't scan it today.
Shite, what's your prediction for the new code.
Winner gets 6 old Denso spark plugs

I'm guessing the first CEL was flashing. Is the new one as well?

When you sold the truck, did you agree to be out of pocket mechanic for any future issues?

I've nothing much else to do but play with my dog all day. I enjoy helping others with vehicle repairs.
Truth be told, she can't afford services with an auto mechanic.

I sold a Town Car to an employee 2 years ago. A few months later the intake manifold crapped out. He paid for a Dorman intake and I replaced it. A Goodwill jesture on my part.
