we got Panasonic tuff books off lease, they fucked up and had em at $249 but honored all the sales before they realized their mistake..

 

In the exact same boat, been following this and a couple other threads. I'm looking in the sub $600 price range, SSD, 8gb ram, 15.6", i5 8th gen processor, etc.

This one was reccomended a while back, still seems like a decent model for the price:

What is your primary use for the machine?

 

My primary use is very light home use (email, Excel, etc). I also want to start converting some old video tapes to digital, but I don't think that requires any major horsepower. And I don't want to buy a laptop again for at least 5 years.

 

Either of those should be fine, but I am not saying any computer will last 5 years. Some do, some don't.

 

Yeah, the specs are almost identical. Maybe an HP vs Acer argument at this point. (other than the touch screen on the HP and a bigger HD on the Acer).

 

FWIW, Dell is having a sale right now.

i5, 8GB ram, and discrete graphics goes for 500-600. no way anyone is getting i7, 16GB for that price.

I convinced a friend to get this one for light video editing and other general use. hes happy with it. the MX150 chip got good reviews.
