Just finished an article about this in the Spanish press. It said that the facilities in Portugal, Spain, and Italy will not benefit from this move. From the artilce you posted: "In 2017, Harley sold nearly 40,000 new motorcycles in Europe which accounted for more than 16 percent of the company's sales last year. The revenues from EU countries were second only to the United States." Maybe Harley just realized that they've already sold a hog to everybody over the age of 50 in the US and that there are greener pastures in Europe? Also, Just as funny to me was the tone of the Spanish article and comments: totally anti-Trump AND anti-American. But they can't get enough of dem hogs!! 'MURCA!
Let's wait awhile and see. I bet a lot of folks talking tough right now will blink when they realize it isn't going to get them what they want.
What about the steel plant building a new $500 million dollar plant because of the so call clown in chief plans. Sound like its working more then not. Take that jap Davidson and go where ever they want. They are about as American made as Ford and Chevy.
The prez's tweet on HD was very much on point. HD decided long ago to move its Kansas plant overseas. Blaming tariffs is just a disguise and pure BS.
True, but suggesting that it’s still not overwhelmingly made in the USA is also being disingenuous. The power train, tins, rims, seats, fibreglass, plastics are all made in the USA. Even the Dunlop tires. When it comes to electronics, batteries, switches and lights etc, it’s over seas. But name me one auto manufacturer who doesn’t do the same. Harley is more made in the USA than all of them.
Looks like Harley has a Trump problem. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...ls-back-to-us-following-production-shift.html
I did a little search for how American is Harley but the real answer doesn't seem so easy to find. Loads of arguments on internet forums by people who caim to have inside info but mostly bullshit. I'd imagine some of the startups like Brammo, Alta, Motus, Confederate and Arch might be more American. Probably no real way to tell though. http://backintheusa.us/articles2.php?title2=howamericanisharleydavidson
Wheels are made in Australia.(unless that changed). . Forks Japan... as are brake discs ... it is more likely a 45/55 split of Offshore/US manufacture.. and 85% Assembled in The USA. I also read somewhere that 6 in 10 of the big bikes were destined for sale overseas as the market here is saturated.. slumping sales due to disinterested buyers
So, at any time prior to 2016, Trump would have just soaked up an extra 100 million in operating costs for Trump International because the President said it was for the good of everyone? Why should individual businesses be held to that socialist standard?
Maybe if HD hadn't previously been the beneficiary of import tariffs enacted specifically to benefit their company you'd have a point. In light of past assistance, they need to be a team player rather than a fair-weather friend. We have no shortage of those. And it was really stupid to blame their move on Trump when it was planned long ago. I'm not sure who they thought they'd make brownie points with by doing that, certainly not their customer base in the US.
Or maybe, they are just a business in a waining industry telling you about the truths of the issues they currently face. Maybe their only "team" are their employees and customers and they don't have a political agenda.
