I am trying to import a vcf and my phone says nope. It's a Moto G and the vcf is from an iPhone I think. This is always a pain. Someone come do it for me. It's worked before but always too many effin gymnastics.
The easiest way I've found to transfer any file across platforms (droid to pc or ios) is to upload to drive or dropbox then download it with the other device. It's usually faster too.
It's a contact file with the person's name, email, phone numbers etc. Supposed to import to your phone contacts easily. Used to work on android but they effed it up.
You can import the VCF file to your contacts on your gmail address on your computer. Once they are loaded there you can copy to the contacts on your phone. I'm assuming you are using a gmail address on your phone. http://www.ubergizmo.com/how-to/how-to-transfer-contacts-from-iphone-to-android-5-ways/
You can back up your entire life to google. Some think this is a great idea. I know those that back up every purchase, email, text, website visit, etc. to google. Back it up. It is convenient.
