We took the boat ride on the Riverwalk one time. Was interesting & driver pointed out bullet holes from the time of the Siege of the Alamo. Tour of the Alamo was also interesting. When you go in the long barracks, scene of the last stand before total annihilation of the Texicans, you can imagine the carnage in that place completely filled with men hand to hand fighting to the death. General Santa Anna gave no quarter. His actions at the Alamo and the Goliad Massacre made for some really P/O'd Texicans ! They took their revenge at the Battle of San Jacinto. There in 18 minutes (with the Texicans bellowing the war cries "Remember the Alamo" & "Remember Goliad") they killed 630 Mexican Soldiers, took 730 prisoners, & captured General Santa Anna (who was fleeing in a common soldier's uniform) & forced him to agree to the terms of the Treaties of Velasco setting the border with Mexico at the Rio Grande River. I can see why Ozzy was arrested for peeing on the sacred grounds of the Alamo. Thankfully it is the modern day otherwise he might have been "tarred and feathered" then "run out of town on a rail" !
San Antone While at the Alamo, go visit the Menger Hotel just right of the Alamo when your looking at it. Housed some big names, very old place...check it out! How about the Towers of America while your at it......down town. If you gotta see some nice cowboys hats visit Paris Hatters...very cool....downtown as well. If you go into the hill country visit Luckenbach TX. Gristmill in Gruene TX awesome food and sights......enjoy!
This times eleventy thousand! The reenactment is great. There's also some cool antique shops. One with actual Nazi shit. What hotel are you staying at?
I've been to Gruene Hall, that's where they filmed Travolta's dance scene in the movie Michael correct? It's like walking back in time. What's the hotel downtown where John Wayne was known to spend a lot of time there?
If wanting to make a day trip out to the hill country go here: http://www.lonestarmotorcyclemuseum.com/ You can eat there too. Also Dave's place in Center point is unlike any place you will ever go. Good food and cheap beer and a nice overlook of the river.
