For everyone saying that any caliber less than a ___ is worthless, who wants to volunteer to take a round from my .22 and see if it doesn't ruin your day? Hell, I've got an old pellet gun that could make you think twice about coming into the yard
I'm partial to a 44 mag in a 629 S&W. I carried a 3" barrel 629 for about 25 years in Alaska, mainly for bush flying. Made a big mistake when I sold it to move to NM a few years ago. I still have all of my reloading dies, press and supplies. Now I see they make a 2.64" barrel 629 in 44 mag. Maybe I need one. But, for self protection in civilization I agree that the .45 ACP is it. I hear the 9 MM is good too, but the 45 has been around for so long and the heavy bullet theory has been proven so many times on all kinds of animals. If I didn't have so much invested in 44 mag I'd go with the 45. But then the question would be which one. I hear the Springfield is a good choice.
Assassins usually have a different POU from their ammo than a normal CCW holder. Noise suppression, low muzzle flash and concealment aren't exactly top priorities to me, so I'll stick to a good modern self defense round in 9mm or larger.
