Lawn Dart Difficult. With a big D.

Sometimes, its not the size of your gun, but who you use it on that could make the difference...

I don't think it was a serious question. I'm guessing you didn't read the attached anecdote.

.50AE is the smallest I'm willing to go  That would make a hell of a mess to a knee cap though.

For everyone saying that any caliber less than a ___ is worthless, who wants to volunteer to take a round from my .22 and see if it doesn't ruin your day? Hell, I've got an old pellet gun that could make you think twice about coming into the yard :D

It's not the size of the round, it's where you put it.

Sure, if you'll take one from my .45. I shoot first.

    lmao

Considering most gun deaths occur from .22's, i find this laughable.

I'm partial to a 44 mag in a 629 S&W. I carried a 3" barrel 629 for about 25 years in Alaska, mainly for bush flying. Made a big mistake when I sold it to move to NM a few years ago. I still have all of my reloading dies, press and supplies. Now I see they make a 2.64" barrel 629 in 44 mag. Maybe I need one.

But, for self protection in civilization I agree that the .45 ACP is it. I hear the 9 MM is good too, but the 45 has been around for so long and the heavy bullet theory has been proven so many times on all kinds of animals. If I didn't have so much invested in 44 mag I'd go with the 45. But then the question would be which one. I hear the Springfield is a good choice.

+1, there is a reason why most professional assasins prefer the .22 (supressed)

easier to conceal, quieter, less mess... Tends to rattle around a bit vs. exit. Or so I've heard.

Assassins usually have a different POU from their ammo than a normal CCW holder. Noise suppression, low muzzle flash and concealment aren't exactly top priorities to me, so I'll stick to a good modern self defense round in 9mm or larger.
