And that is the crux of the situation. They are quick to mention raising taxes while pissing and moaning about cutting a dime. Significant spending cuts ARE possible if they tried. And yes, a lot would involve cutting the size of the government. That should have been done a long time ago. But they would rather keep spending like meth heads looking for their next hit than actually address the true problem of stupid spending.

Given they have lied many times over the years about cutting spending if allowed to raise taxes I would not support a tax increase of 1 cent. IF they totally shut down some departments and reduced many others while raising retirement age and lowering medicare and other welfare programs then after a year if that was not working or the pace needed to be increased I would support paying more. But the reality is that 'progressives' want to even the playing field and will tax into submission anyone that achieves while redistributing wealth to their favored groups and stealing liberty from everyone. So f@!#$ any tax increase except on those that currently don't pay taxes and are just parasites.

Does anyone on here actually believe that these economic problems are recent or caused by the current administration?
Why all the finger pointing that this is a Obama problem?
This is a government problem, not one administration.
These problems have been festering for years.
The fix will not be quick as some here seem to assume.
The US economy is not a speed boat, rather the largest ship ever.
It doesn't turn on a dime.
No one man or political party has gotten us here.
We elected the all the politicians who led us to this point over the last ten or more years.
Let your voice be heard by voting, but remember that your view point is not the view point of everyone.
    There is a middle!

I understand the theory. I don't think our elected "leaders" can allow it to happen. There have to be real cuts. That is where they will fail miserably.

This problem is a US problem. Both parties have to solve it. IMHO, both are going to have to give on taxes, and both are going to have to have to allow a lot of oxen to get gored on the spending side. It is going to be decidedly unpleasant.

I completely agree, it's so simple in fact that we add all the details to an already empty shell of a plan. And while this mock argument in DC continues, we check in, get happy or shocked or numb, and check back out for awhile and nothing really ever changes. They only make noise when we show up to check on things and as soon as we stop watching it's back to business as usual.

    Biggest empty promise was change.

And yes Mr. Acree, this is my annual cameo :D

Mark, go back to work, you got taxes to pay, dammit! :D

I agree with Rick and such that more taxes will have to be paid. That is a given. But I have to say, I agree more that there should actually be a legitimate cut and plan implemented by the government before giving them more money. That's why I am a huge proponent of either the Fair or Flat Tax but don't want to see either implemented with the increased money it will give to the government without holding them accountable for more realistic spending. If we blindly just throw more money at them, they are simply going to take what we give them and spend even farther beyond that amount. They have proven that fact repeatedly.

whether cutting taxes increases tax revenue depends on which side of the Laffer curve you're on. if current tax rates are on the downward slope of the curve, then yes, cutting taxes will increase revenue. on the other hand, if you cut taxes while on the upward slope of the curve, tax cuts will drop revenue.
