I need to safety wire the rear axle on my 2008 CBR-600. What do I need to do? There are no holes for a safety pin like the gixxer, nor is there anything in the immediate area to secure it too.

    Thanks
    Ty

Just the nut or the whole axle?

Drill some holes, clean up the threads, install the wire.

Wiring from the nut to the swing arm or nearby bolt will work.

Putting a pin through the nut, inline with holes in the axle will work.

    Tdub Say what???

On our RRs, we run an R clip thru the end of the axles, not the nut. Tdub

When drilling.. Slow and steady wins the race. A little wd 40 on the bit never hurts...

You can get these types of clips in a few different sizes at Home Depot. HD is the only place I could find them locally. Work great for safety wiring.

Use cutting oil, or 3m oil..a good carbide bit, and take your time..;)

I just drilled the nut... go from one face to the face right beside it if that makes sense... make the hole big enough for a saftey pin. Wire the safety pin to the adjuster bolt. done

either way works fine. I just like my way cause you dont have to drill the axle.

The cheapest oil you can get, that probably is just about as good as any other. Save some motor oil when you change the oil on your bike.

Here's their page with everything you need.

Safety Wire, pliers and drill bits

(Hint: get a GOOD set of safety wire pliers and cherish them. Don't use them for anything but wiring. They are not vise-grips.)

McMaster-Carr has replacement supplies of wire and tools, they generally ship overnight, but are a little more expensive.

Use .032" for stuff that doesn't get removed very much, and .025" for the small stuff and things that are frequently re-wired.

All good idea's and places to do it listed! Mines saftey wired with a loop around the adjuster bolt with plastic tubing over the wire and coming back to the axle nut. Then drilled the nut at an angle and used an R-Clip going through it. Quick and easy assembly/disassembly.
